Cheap date night ideas (way less than dinner out)

Cheap date night ideas get weird when “free” means “stare at your phones.” Cheap can still be specific.

Food under almost nothing: egg-drop from a carton, tuna-and-cracker supper, yogurt-and-granola dinner (yes, dinner), lentil-soup mugs, honey on toast with a silly name. Activity that costs a penny or less: wishing-well penny, sidewalk-crack counting, overdue-book drop, post-office stamp browse, aisle-wander grocery with a $10 ceiling and a dare. Games from junk drawers: coin-spin duration, rubber-band target, dice-from-a-button, kitchen-tile hop, name-five-in-ten.

Places that are already yours: front stoop, back stairs, porch swing, laundromat bench, parking garage golden-hour walk with no destination. Moods to name out loud so the night has a shape: lazy, silly, cozy-cranky, dare-you grin, rainy-day hush.

The trick is not finding the cheapest activity on earth. It's agreeing fast. Write three cheap options each. Play. Go do the winner before you talk yourselves into ordering something expensive “just this once.”
